LEED Certification for builders: (adapted form the US Green Building Council’s website)

The US Green Building Council has established LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) as a system to define and measure “green buildings.”

The LEED for homes rating system uses eight resource categories to measure the overall performance of the home:   (1) Innovation and Design Process (PD), (2)Location and Linkages (LL), (3) Sustainable Sites (SS), (4) Water Efficiency (WE), (5) Energy and Atmosphere (EA),  (6) Materials and Resources (MR), Indoor Environmental Quality  (IEQ), (8) Awareness and Education (AE).

The rating system is designed to guarantee a minimum level of sustainable practices through 18 prerequisites in the 8 credit categories.

Our reclaimed products contribute to a projects’ LEED certification points in the Materials and Resources (MR2) category.   If finished with our low VOC or VOC –free sealants they can earn points for indoor environmental quality as well.   The new-made Spanish may earn points based on the alternative fuels used in their production.
